A Strong Workforce is an Inclusive Workforce
The month of October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) where we recognize the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities and to raise awareness about disability employment issues to strive for an inclusive workforce.
Work is an important factor in most of our lives, and this is no different for people who have a disability.
Highlighting and celebrating the contributions of workers with disabilities and to educate people about the value of a diverse workforce inclusive of their skills and talents, I had the opportunity to interview our own Breaking Barriers San Diego (BBSD)employment specialist, Ziad E.
Ziad was born with a disability and shares some intimate and challenging moments that will inspire us all to not see his barriers as a disability but an ability. What we may think is limiting may be actually a strength and when we are able to overcome our own limitations and beliefs about people with disabilities, then can we truly be equal and inclusive in the workforce.
Ziad’s continues his efforts for inclusive workspaces working with the Breaking Barriers San Diego Program (BBSD) which is supported employment services to individuals with disabilities seeking work in the competitive job market. Additional services include assistance with writing résumés and cover letters, practicing interviewing skills, and problem-solving to address any obstacles to working such as gaps in employment and legal history.
